Michigan musician Jason Singer, better know by his very appropriate stage name Michigander, is in a good place right now. He released his EP, Where Do We Go From Here, last September, the first for C3 Records. Singer opened the Bernie Sanders rally that was held in downtown Grand Rapids on Sunday, just before Tuesday’s Michigan primary.
Now let’s rewind to late 2019. November 15 to be exact. It’s at the Loving Touch in Ferndale where I interviewed Singer after he opened for Pete Yorn. Yes, FOUR MONTHS AGO. I’m sorry. I’m a terrible person for just now posting this interview. However, I really enjoyed this conversation.
Singer was very honest about how close he was to giving up Michigander.
“Yeah, it’s kind of weird to think about. I was finally at a point where I’m just like, I need to let go of it all,” Singer says. “I’ve been doing this for so long, mostly on my own. Obviously I have a lot of great friends and people who play and tour with me that I’m very grateful for. But I felt like I hit a ceiling of what I can do on my own. Coming along inside of C3, on the label and the management side, busted that ceiling.”
