The operators behind Detroit restaurant Grey Ghost announced plans for a new concept eatery in Ferndale — which will include the group’s popular burger on the menu.
Four Man Ladder Hospitality purchased a building at 22305 Woodward Ave (Woodward and Pearson St) and will begin construction this month. The nearly 1,000 square-foot property formerly housed an L.A. Insurance.
According to a press release, the yet-to-be-named location will focus on the fast casual takeout experience — with a small menu that will feature the Grey Ghost burger, chicken sandwich and sides.
“Over the past nine years, our beloved Grey Ghost burger has developed a loyal following,” co-owner Chef John Vermiglio said in the release. “Its simple preparation and exceptional ingredients resonate with our guests, and we’re excited to translate that same spirit into a quick-service format. Alongside this fan favorite, we’ll introduce fresh new menu items, all crafted with the same commitment to quality.”
The new location is expected to open this summer. It will join Four Man Ladder Hospitality’s current portfolio of Grey Ghost, Second Best and Basan, but with the distinction of being the group’s first project outside the city of Detroit — and possibly the first of multiple locations.
“We chose Ferndale for our flagship location for a multitude of reasons. The small-town charm, walkability and immense sense of community this city offers were major drivers,” Vermiglio told Ferndale Radio. “As longtime residents of Ferndale since relocating back to Michigan, the opportunity to provide our neighbors with another great, affordable and approachable dining option was an easy decision.”
If the Ferndale concept proves to be successful, an expansion throughout metro Detroit is the next goal Vermiglio and his partners are aiming for.
“We plan to focus all of our time and attention on our flagship Ferndale location as we traverse the new-to-us world of fast casual dining,” Vermiglio said. “Long-term, we hope to bring this concept to a number of locations in and around metro Detroit, but no future plans exist at this time. We can’t wait to introduce ourselves and our food to the incredible residents of Ferndale.”
