The Peripheral: Samantha Crain and First Aid Kit, Allison Russell, Caroline Spence + more

Happy heat wave ~ I hope you’re hanging in there. This week we’re cooling off by dipping our toes into all different genre pools. As far as new music goes, we will hear a moving collaboration by Samantha Crain and First Aid Kit titled “Pott County Call Return.” Plus, we will hear “Black Lavender” from Allison Russell featuring Brittney Spencer ahead of her July 10 album release In the Hour of Chaos, as well as “Black Dog Rabbit Hole” from Devon Gilfillian’s Friday album release Time Will Tell.

I also rediscovered an old favorite songwriter, Caroline Spence, and will share two tracks from her August 2025 record Heart Go Wild in the order they appear: “Soft Animal” into “Effortless.” Something about summertime and the sweetness of Caroline’s voice pair effortlessly together (pun intended).

And we’ll share a silly millennial moment at the end of the show together!
