Interview: Post Sex Nachos are ready to be the ‘Big Bad’ in your world

Post Sex Nachos

Post Sex Nachos want you to know that their latest album Big Bad is their best work yet.

The alt-pop band has steadily built momentum since forming in 2018 in Columbia, Mo. Now based in Nashville, Post Sex Nachos released Big Bad in September, their fifth full-length release.

The group — comprised of lead vocalist and guitarist Sammy Elfanbaum, lead guitarist Mitch Broddon, bassist Chase Mueller, drummer Hunter Pendleton and newest member Jack Hazel — built a lot of buzz ahead of dropping Big Bad thanks to the success of their Booster Pack EP that released last December. Tracks like “SOS” and “Supergirl” were heard on SiriusXM’s Alt Nation, and of course right here on 100.7 Ferndale Radio.

The quick success of Booster Pack helped Post Sex Nachos go straight to work on Big Bad, but that also added to the pressure of delivering the record they wanted.

“It’s a weird position to be in when those five songs that we put on the Booster Pack EP were or kind of really randomly placed together,” Elfanbaum said. “We knew we wanted to work with this producer Micah Tawlks, and we got an opportunity, and we recorded the first song with him, which was one that we had been ripping in the rehearsal space called ‘Walk Away.’ And it kind of snuck up on us like, ‘Hey, we got to record some more songs, we have to — like the fire’s hot, we got to add wood to the flame, you know?'”

Elfanbaum continued: “We kind of just dug through…sessions, and whatever we all liked was what we ended up making for that record. And people have disagreed with me since this has come out, but I don’t think it’s very cohesive, but somehow they kind of worked together. It has been like the best reception and quickest-growing music that we’ve ever put out. So there is a lot of pressure, now that we have this whole body of work [Big Bad] that’s super cohesive. It’s not the end of the world if people don’t like it as much, but I sure do.”
