Legendary soul singer Mavis Staples just released a music video for “If All I Was Was Black” which you can watch below.
The clip, directed by Zac Manuel, features Staples singing in a diner with a cup of coffee. Meanwhile a crowd gathers around the unveiling of a statue. A young woman is the primary spotlight of this scene and viewers discover that the statue looks a lot like her.
Staples partnered with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy to produce her latest album of the same title. The Chicago native has a few North American tour dates scheduled, including a stop at Bonnaroo on June 9.
