Gravity Festival Bringing Art Fair and Skateboarding Contest to Ferndale This Weekend

Geary Park

A new festival featuring art, skateboarding, food trucks and more is set to debut in Geary Park in Ferndale this Saturday.

Gravity Art Fair & Skate Contest is a free event taking place June 12 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees can see the work of over 50 local artists. Modern Skate & Surf is hosting skateboard, BMX and scooter contests at Geary’s skate park.

As C&G News reports, Gravity Festival founder and Ferndale resident Krista Johnson wanted to channel the sense of community that the skatepark has brought since its completion in 2019.

“There are kids and adults gathering there every day cheering each other on; they work out new tricks,” Johnson told C&G. “It’s wonderful to see people unplugged and having a great time, and as more kids started hanging out at the park, more people were gathered there. So it became a real community gathering place. I decided to create a festival fueled by the skate park and really show it off and celebrate its culture.”

Tune in to 100.7 Ferndale Radio on Friday, June 11 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. as host Rob Paul brings you a skate rock special to celebrate Gravity Festival.

In other festival news, Ferndale will see the return of the DIY Street Fair in September.
